<p>The 349th was established as a Troop Carrier Wing at Hamilton AFB, CA in June 1949, operating the C-46 and a number of trainer types. The unit was redesignated the 349th Fighter-Bomber Wing in May 1952 shortly after mobilization, but returned to Reserve service one month later. The wing operated T-33As along with F-51s, F-80s and F-84s before reverting to the designation of 349th TCW in September 1957. C-119s were operated from 1958 until 1965, when the unit converted to the C-124A, and then became the 349th MAW in January 1966. The 349th moved to Travis AFB in July 1969 as the first Associate Wing, providing Reservist personnel to operate front-line MAC aircraft at McChord AFB, Norton AFB and Travis AFB until June 1973, when the former two bases were assigned their own associated wings. The unit was redesignated as an Air Mobility Wing in October 1994.
